The beginning of our happily ever after...

I want to start by telling you all our story. It's a cute one really. I couldn't have written it better if I tried. I'll try to tell parts the way he tells it because it's really a lot cuter that way. He and I remember things differently but the basic idea is the same. We started off friends and then fell in love.

The first time we met each other was when he was in 13 and working at the Bluff Street Park soccer fields. My brother had bought a snow cone and someone hadn't put enough flavor on it, so I had to go back with him to ask for more flavoring. That was the first time he saw me and according to him he fell in love instantly and knew right then and there he was going to marry me. I personally don't remember any of this at all.

Jeremy and I both worked at the snow shack and we got to be really good friends over the years. I wasn't really interested in him as anything more than a friend though for quite some time. Years in fact. He tried and I denied. I dated his two best friends. He was my go-to-in-the-middle-of-the-night-and-cry-to friend. We would stay up sitting on his couch just talking and laughing and occasionally crying (I did most of the talking, he most of the laughing, and me again on the crying). I thought we had an understanding, we were just friends. Nothing more. Little did I know....

He was in love with me the whole time. All those late nights when I would tell him about the guys I was dating and how they had broken my heart he wanted to break their faces. He loved me and knew he was better for me than them. He tried and I denied some more. He had all but given up on me when the summer of 2007 rolled around.

I had moved home from college for the summer and he had just broken up with his girlfriend. I was still holding on to the "just friends" thing though. Or so I thought. He went out of town for a week with his family and to my great surprise I really missed him. This was the turning point. I went out of town the next and while I was gone I made up my mind to finally say yes to him. He had told me a couple weeks before that all I had to do was say "yes" and we'd be together. I went straight to his house the night I got back fully prepared to leave there as his girlfriend. Unfortunately it didn't go as planned.

I was too late. He was going on a mission. His papers were all filled out and ready to go. I was too late.

I was crushed and confused. This wasn't going as planned. I was just supposed to say "yes" and then it would be happily ever after. Right? There I was saying yes and he was telling me no. We talked for a bit longer and decided to give a test run for a week and just go on a date or two and see where it takes us. Well it took us right where we both secretly wanted it to and he kissed me a few days later. My first kiss. We started dating officially just after that and the rest is history.

There are a lot of details left out of that, but that's the general idea. Since then we have both served missions. When I got home in April it didn't take long for us to figure out that this was what we wanted. I love him with all my heart, and I am so grateful he stuck with me all those years. He is one patient man, but it paid off in the end. We're finally getting our happily ever after.
